OLX Impact Report FY26: how reselling creates economic and environmental value
The OLX Impact Report FY26 shows how reselling creates economic and environmental value. In FY26, more than 5.9 million preloved items were traded on our platforms.
The products we already own can do more than we think. When someone buys or sells something preloved on an OLX platform, that product gets a longer life, helping reduce the need for new production.
The OLX Impact Report FY26 reveals the economic and environmental value created through reselling preloved electronics, vehicles and car parts on our platforms.
In FY26, OLX users traded more than 5.9 million* items across these categories. Together, those transactions helped people save and earn money, while saving materials, water and energy, and avoiding carbon emissions.
The collective impact of reselling
The 5.9 million preloved items traded through our platforms helped save an estimated:
- 861,000 tonnes of materials
- 155 billion litres of water
- 1.78 million tonnes of CO₂e
- 31.9 million GJ of energy
To put those numbers into perspective, the water saved could fill around 62,000 Olympic swimming pools, while the energy saved is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of around 1.3 million people in France.
These figures show how everyday choices can add up to significant collective impact.
The report also looks at the economic value created for buyers and sellers. In electronics alone, 2.3 million deals helped sellers earn an estimated €311 million, while buyers saved approximately €350 million compared with buying equivalent products new.
Keeping products in use for longer
Reselling is part of the circular economy, where products are reused, repaired, refurbished and resold instead of being discarded.
Buying or selling preloved gives products a second life. It can postpone the production of a replacement item and reduce part of the environmental impact connected to sourcing materials, manufacturing, transport, energy use and end-of-life waste.
The OLX Impact Report FY26 translates this impact into practical examples across several categories, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, televisions, cars, motorcycles and car parts.
For example, the report estimates that on average, the trade of one preloved car can help save:
- 697 kg of materials
- 119,000 litres of water
- 1,262 kg of CO₂e emissions
- 23,316 MJ of energy
An average preloved smartphone traded can help save 105 g of materials, 2,200 litres of water, 35 kg of CO₂e emissions and 530 MJ of energy.
Measuring our own footprint
The report also includes OLX Group’s own operational emissions.
In FY26, OLX Group’s total emissions were 12,811 tonnes of CO₂e, including emissions connected to technology, software, infrastructure, employee commuting, business travel, offices and company vehicles.
For context, the report estimates that the trade of used goods included in the study helped avoid 1.78 million tonnes of CO₂e, which is approximately 143 times OLX Group’s own operational footprint for the year.
Your next good deal is also a good deed
The OLX Impact Report FY26 shows that reselling can support both economic and environmental value.
A buyer saves money. A seller earns money. A product stays in use for longer.
Together, millions of individual transactions can help reduce waste, preserve resources and support a more circular economy.

Frequently asked questions
The OLX Impact Report FY26 presents the key sustainability findings behind the economic and environmental value created through the resale of preloved electronics, vehicles and car parts on OLX platforms. It also includes OLX Group’s own operational carbon footprint for FY26.
To make the findings easier to understand, the report translates key metrics into everyday comparisons, showing what the impact means both for individual transactions and at a larger scale.
In FY26, more than 5.9 million preloved electronics, vehicles and car parts were traded on OLX platforms. The report estimates that these transactions helped save 861,000 tonnes of materials, 155 billion litres of water, 31.9 million GJ of energy and 1.78 million tonnes of CO₂e.
In electronics alone, sellers earned an estimated €311 million, while buyers saved approximately €350 million compared with buying equivalent products new.
When a preloved product is sold and used for longer, the production of a replacement product may be postponed. This can reduce part of the environmental impact connected to raw materials, manufacturing, transport, energy use and end-of-life waste.
The report estimates the impact associated with extending the useful life of a product through resale. It considers the product’s life-cycle footprint and the additional period for which it remains in use.
The calculations also account for the fact that preloved products may have a shorter remaining lifespan than new products. For economic savings, the methodology uses a 50% substitution factor, assuming that only half of buyers would otherwise have purchased an equivalent new product.
The product impact model was developed by Rebel Group. The report was created in collaboration between New Alchemists and OLX Group.
The report covers smartphones, tablets, laptops, televisions, cars, motorcycles and car parts.
These categories were selected because buying them second-hand can create significant economic and environmental value, both by reducing part of their product footprint and by helping people save or earn money.
OLX Group’s operational emissions totalled 12,811 tonnes of CO₂e in FY26. This includes emissions connected to technology, software, infrastructure, commuting, business travel, offices and company vehicles.
For context, the report estimates that the resale transactions included in the study helped avoid 1.78 million tonnes of CO₂e, approximately 143 times OLX Group’s operational footprint for the year.
